Role Overview

The successful candidate will oversee the tax operations of RMB Nigeria and its affiliated entities. This role involves ensuring full compliance with applicable tax regulations, managing tax risks, optimizing tax strategies, and maintaining effective relationships with tax authorities and professional advisers.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Prepare and review annual tax computations and statutory filings.
  • Ensure prompt filing and payment of all applicable taxes, including Company Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), and Stamp Duties.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant banking regulations, including BOFIA and Central Bank of Nigeria guidelines.
  • Manage tax accounting processes and ensure accurate reporting in accordance with IFRS requirements.

Transfer Pricing Management

  • Review intercompany agreements to ensure compliance with transfer pricing regulations.
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of Local Files and Master Files.
  • Ensure appropriate transfer pricing methodologies are applied across transactions.
  • Serve as the primary contact during transfer pricing reviews and audits.

Tax Advisory and Planning

  • Identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency and optimize the organization's tax position.
  • Monitor developments in tax legislation and assess their impact on the business.
  • Provide strategic tax advice to management on business initiatives and transactions.
  • Recommend solutions for managing and mitigating tax-related risks.

Regulatory Engagement and Audits

  • Coordinate responses to inquiries from regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain productive relationships with tax authorities and external consultants.
  • Manage tax audits, reconciliations, and dispute resolution processes.
  • Lead engagements relating to tax investigations and compliance reviews.

Governance and Internal Controls

  • Support internal and external audits with accurate tax documentation.
  • Strengthen tax control frameworks and compliance procedures.
  • Maintain comprehensive tax records and audit trails.
  • Identify potential tax risks and ensure appropriate reporting mechanisms are in place.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with auditors, consultants, and advisers.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure efficient tax management.
  • Ensure timely completion of all tax-related deliverables.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, CITN, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A Master's Degree will be considered an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant tax experience, including managerial responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience working with tax regulatory authorities.
  • Previous experience within the banking or financial services sector is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws and regulations.
  • Sound knowledge of IFRS and tax accounting principles.
  • Experience using electronic tax platforms such as TaxPro Max.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and leadership capabilities.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage regulatory compliance and tax risk effectively.
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making abilities.
