Job Title: Resident Coordinator

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Role Overview

The Resident Coordinator serves as the highest-ranking representative of the United Nations development system at the country level. The role involves leading the UN Country Team, coordinating development activities, strengthening partnerships, and supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The successful candidate will work closely with government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, and private sector stakeholders to ensure coordinated and impactful UN operations in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the United Nations at the highest levels of government and with strategic stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework.
  • Coordinate UN system-wide support to national development priorities and SDGs.
  • Promote human rights, gender equality, and inclusive development initiatives.
  • Build strategic partnerships with civil society, academia, private sector, and development organizations.
  • Oversee coordination of humanitarian and development efforts where required.
  • Drive strategic communication and public engagement around UN initiatives.
  • Support innovation, knowledge sharing, and sustainable development solutions.
  • Provide oversight for country-level financing and operational coordination.
  • Promote staff development, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in:
    • Development Studies
    • International Relations
    • Political Science
    • Economics
    • Social Sciences
    • Human Rights
    • Law or related disciplines
  • A first degree combined with substantial relevant experience may also be considered.
