Job Overview
The Business Operations Manager will be responsible for translating organizational objectives into measurable operational outcomes. The successful candidate will oversee commercial, technical, and regulatory activities while driving initiatives aimed at reducing Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses. The position also requires strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and performance management across the franchise.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Management and Leadership
- Lead and implement initiatives focused on reducing ATC&C losses while monitoring progress against established targets.
- Develop and execute business strategies aligned with organizational goals and performance expectations.
- Manage operational budgets and provide recommendations on investment priorities.
- Create and regularly review operational plans covering metering, revenue assurance, customer relations, and network operations.
- Establish performance indicators for teams and individuals and conduct regular performance review sessions.
Commercial and Revenue Management
- Oversee the entire revenue cycle, including energy received, billing processes, and revenue collection.
- Drive the implementation and expansion of prepaid and smart metering programs.
- Monitor collection efficiency and introduce strategies to improve revenue recovery.
- Develop and enforce measures aimed at reducing energy theft, meter bypass, and unbilled consumption.
- Ensure commercial performance targets are consistently achieved.
Technical and Network Operations
- Ensure optimal feeder performance and network reliability.
- Supervise maintenance schedules and coordinate effective responses to network emergencies.
- Support initiatives that strengthen infrastructure resilience and service delivery.
Regulatory Compliance and Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare and submit accurate monthly operational and performance reports to management.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, electricity distribution companies, and customers.
- Resolve regulatory and operational issues promptly in accordance with service-level agreements.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with community stakeholders to support revenue protection initiatives.
- Ensure full compliance with industry regulations, franchise agreements, and workplace safety standards.
People Management and Organizational Culture
- Promote transparency and accountability by ensuring audit findings are addressed within agreed timelines.
- Foster a culture that discourages revenue leakage, fraud, theft, and unethical practices.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
- Maintain clear performance expectations and uphold excellent customer service standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, Arts, or a related discipline.
- A Master's Degree will be considered an added advantage.
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in electricity distribution, utility operations, or a related sector.
- At least three (3) years of proven management experience.
- Strong expertise in strategic planning, energy accounting, revenue assurance, and operational analytics.
- Comprehensive understanding of regulations governing Nigeria's electricity industry.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
