The European Union (EU) is a major global player in diplomacy, trade, development cooperation, and international relations. The EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS works closely with Nigerian authorities, ECOWAS institutions, civil society, and other partners to advance political dialogue, sustainable development, human rights, and regional integration. The Delegation plays a key role in supporting sectors such as health, nutrition, water & sanitation, and access to sustainable energy.

Job Title: Funded Traineeships for Young Graduates

Section: Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Duration: 6 Months (Tentative start: July 2026)
Employment Type: Paid Internship/Traineeship

Programme Description

Are you a young Nigerian graduate passionate about international relations, diplomacy, and political affairs? This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience inside a diplomatic mission and understand how the European Union advances its interests and values in Nigeria and the ECOWAS region.

The PPI Section supports the Head of Delegation in political analysis, engagement with government officials, civil society, think tanks, and the media. It also coordinates EU positions on political, regional, consular, migration, and security matters while monitoring ECOWAS developments.

Main Tasks

  • Draft reports on political developments, human rights, economic issues, regional affairs, and foreign policy
  • Support the organisation of meetings and prepare meeting minutes
  • Assist with communication and public diplomacy activities
  • Help organise public diplomacy events and high-level visits
  • Provide general support to the PPI Section on various political and coordination tasks

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a citizen of Nigeria
  • Must currently reside in Abuja, Nigeria (due to local health and security conditions)
  • Young graduates with at least a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
  • Less than one year of professional experience after graduation (internships, student jobs, or volunteering during/after studies are not counted as professional experience)
  • No more than six weeks of prior experience in EU Institutions
