Role Summary

The Technical Risk Management Lead provides independent oversight for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating engineering and operational risks across power generation assets. The position ensures that technical threats capable of affecting plant reliability, safety, regulatory compliance, or generation capacity are proactively managed.

This role supports structured governance across critical plant systems including turbines, boilers, generators, electrical networks, instrumentation, and balance-of-plant equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Risk Governance

  • Implement and manage the company’s Technical Risk Management Framework.
  • Maintain the Technical Risk Register and critical asset risk profiles.
  • Define acceptable risk tolerance levels for key plant systems.
  • Escalate significant technical risks to management stakeholders.

Risk Identification & Assessment

  • Conduct structured risk assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, RBI, and vulnerability analysis.
  • Identify risks that may result in outages, asset failure, or safety incidents.
  • Evaluate risk likelihood, impact, and effectiveness of controls.
  • Review engineering modifications and maintenance activities from a risk perspective.

Risk Mitigation & Control

  • Develop and monitor mitigation plans with engineering and operations teams.
  • Assess effectiveness of operational and technical controls.
  • Track high-risk issues and ensure timely resolution.

Compliance & Standards

  • Align technical risk processes with enterprise risk management standards.
  • Support compliance with regulatory, ISO, and internal governance requirements.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.

Reporting & Improvement

  • Prepare technical risk dashboards using BarnOwl risk software.
  • Present risk exposure reports to senior management.
  • Provide assurance on effectiveness of technical risk controls.

Risk Culture Development

  • Promote risk-informed decision-making across engineering teams.
  • Deliver technical risk guidance and training where required.

Educational Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5–6 years experience in power utilities, hydrocarbon exploration, or asset-intensive industries.
  • At least three years providing independent technical assurance or reliability support.
  • Professional certification related to Risk or Reliability Engineering (e.g., CMRP, IRM).

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of maintenance, operations, design engineering, and asset integrity.
  • Experience in technical risk assessment and threat management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in risk management tools and software.
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English language.
