The U.S. Mission to Nigeria, consisting of the Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos, represents the United States Government’s diplomatic presence in the country. The Consulate General in Lagos serves as the primary liaison to people and institutions across Southern Nigeria and plays a key role in consular and visa services.
Applications are currently invited from qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Supervisory Visa Assistant. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced international environment supporting one of the largest Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) operations in Africa.

Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will supervise locally employed staff within the Nonimmigrant Visa Unit, one of the busiest and most complex visa processing units globally. The position requires leadership, operational coordination, and strong customer service delivery.
- Lead and supervise a thirteen-member Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) team.
- Coordinate visa processing activities covering tourist, student, work, and performance visa categories.
- Manage team leads and visa assistants while conducting staff evaluations and performance reviews.
- Oversee onboarding programs and ongoing staff training initiatives.
- Supervise scheduling, intake, pre-screening, data entry, visa printing, and case handling processes.
- Monitor visa applications for fraud indicators and support adjudicating officers.
- Serve as liaison between visa staff, fraud prevention teams, and consular leadership.
- Improve operational efficiency through process monitoring and workflow adjustments.
- Promote diversity, inclusion, and equal treatment within the workplace.
Qualifications and Requirements
Option 1
- University Degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Administration, Sociology, Law, or related field.
- NYSC Certificate / Exemption / Exclusion required.
- Minimum of three (3) years administrative or government work experience.
- At least one (1) year supervisory experience.
- Customer service background with experience resolving complex situations.
Option 2
- Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible administrative or government work experience.
- At least two (2) years of university education in any discipline.
- Minimum one (1) year supervisory experience.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical judgment and regulatory interpretation ability.
- Excellent written communication skills in standard English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database applications.
- Accurate typing and data handling skills.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and management skills.
- Ability to multitask efficiently in a high-volume environment.
Salary Information
Salary: USD $31,771 per year.
