Role Purpose

Under the supervision of the Health Specialist (HSS) and overall guidance of the Health Systems Strengthening Manager, the Health Officer will provide technical, operational, and administrative support throughout UNICEF’s health programme lifecycle. The role focuses on strengthening supply chain systems and ensuring effective procurement, distribution, and monitoring of essential health commodities across Nigeria.

The successful candidate will contribute to improving health outcomes by supporting logistics operations tied to UNICEF’s child survival and wellbeing programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and update situation analyses to support supply chain and logistics programme design.
  • Research health commodity value chains and provide analytical reports for programme improvement.
  • Support development of programme goals, strategies, and results-based planning initiatives.
  • Assist implementation of primary healthcare supply system strengthening policies.
  • Coordinate with programme and supply teams to ensure timely procurement of life-saving supplies.
  • Track shipment and last-mile delivery of humanitarian health commodities.
  • Prepare and maintain procurement and supply distribution plans and databases.
  • Provide technical support across programme planning, monitoring, and evaluation processes.
  • Ensure compliance with UNICEF operational procedures and management systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (required).
  • Additional qualifications in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, International Development, Health, or related fields are an advantage.
  • Understanding of development or humanitarian programmes is desirable.
  • Emergency response experience is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant professional experience in supply chain, logistics, procurement, administration, or related technical areas.

  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage financial and material resources effectively.
  • Knowledge of modern supply chain technologies and systems.
  • Understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes.
  • Fluency in English (required).

  • Leadership capability and team supervision experience.
