Microsoft is currently recruiting a highly experienced Government Affairs Director to lead public policy engagement and government relations initiatives across Africa.

Role Overview

The Government Affairs Director will serve as the Government Affairs Policy Lead for Africa within Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) organization. This role reports directly to the Head of Government Affairs for Africa and plays a critical role in shaping Microsoft’s public policy agenda across the continent.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Program Management

  • Advocate and manage complex social, political, legal, and technical policy issues.
  • Lead engagement strategies and campaigns with senior internal stakeholders.
  • Shape Microsoft’s Africa policy agenda while managing regulatory and reputational risks.
  • Oversee government affairs projects including stakeholder outreach and political communications.
  • Identify opportunities for Microsoft technologies and cloud services to support government priorities.

External Relationships & Coalition Building

  • Build partnerships with governments, regulators, coalitions, and industry leaders.
  • Influence legislative and regulatory outcomes aligned with Microsoft’s business goals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with pan-African institutions and international organizations.
  • Manage consultants, partners, and external allies on policy initiatives.

Intelligence, Analysis & Advisory

  • Develop and maintain a policy intelligence network.
  • Analyze political, regulatory, and technology policy trends across Africa.
  • Advise senior executives on policy risks, opportunities, and strategic positioning.

Internal Collaboration & Alignment

  • Coordinate cross-functional engagement across Microsoft teams.
  • Support executive visits, regional initiatives, and strategic events.
  • Resolve cross-group policy priorities and alignment challenges.

Communication & Representation

  • Develop messaging frameworks aligned with Microsoft’s policy objectives.
  • Represent Microsoft at high-level forums and policy discussions.
  • Communicate complex policy and technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Change Management & Adaptability

  • Operate effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous policy environments.
  • Adapt strategies as legal, regulatory, and political landscapes evolve.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Law, or related field with extensive experience; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with several years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or corporate affairs.
  • Significant policy or government affairs experience in multinational or international organizations.
  • Proven ability to influence public and technology policy priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with technology policy and regulatory frameworks across Africa.
  • Fluency in English and French (written and spoken).
  • Strong business acumen and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and build consensus.
