2027 WTO Young Professionals Programme (YPP) at World Trade Organization

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the global body that deals with the rules of trade between nations. The WTO Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is a prestigious one-year opportunity designed to build capacity and increase representation of qualified young professionals from WTO Members that currently have low or no representation in the WTO Secretariat.

Programme Title: 2027 WTO Young Professionals Programme (YPP)

Location: Geneva, Switzerland
Duration: 1 Year (Non-extendable)
Start Date: Expected in 2027

Programme Overview

This highly competitive programme offers young professionals up to 32 years of age (as at 1 January 2027) the chance to gain valuable work experience in the WTO Secretariat. Participants will be assigned to a specific Division based on the Organisation’s needs and their expressed areas of interest (maximum of three preferences).

The programme aims to broaden the pool of professionals from developing and least-developed countries, ultimately increasing their representation in the WTO and other international organisations.

Areas of Work

Selected Young Professionals may work in any of the following areas (among others):

  • Accessions, Agriculture, Digital Trade, Dispute Settlement, Economic Research and Statistics
  • Trade in Services and Investment, Trade Facilitation, Trade and Environment/Climate Change
  • Trade and Development, Trade Policy Analysis, Trade-Related Technical Assistance
  • Fisheries Subsidies, Government Procurement, Intellectual Property Rights, MSMEs, Trade and Gender, and many more

Key Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics, international relations, law, environment studies, or other trade-related fields
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant professional experience
  • Fluency in English (good working knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage)
  • Strong drafting skills in English
  • General knowledge of the WTO and demonstrated interest in international trade and the multilateral trading system
  • Ability to work independently and in a multicultural team environment
  • National of a WTO Member with low or no representation in the WTO Secretariat (priority given to certain developing and LDC Members – see full list on official page)
  • Age: Maximum 32 years as at 1 January 2027
