Business Development & Growth Adviser

The British Government, through the British High Commission in Abuja, is seeking a highly experienced professional to join its Growth, Trade and Investment Group as a Business Development & Growth Adviser (SEO). This permanent role supports the UK–Nigeria Growth Programme by driving high-impact trade and investment opportunities that deliver mutual economic benefits.

Role Overview

The role focuses on identifying, developing, and converting priority trade and investment opportunities into a strong deal pipeline. Working closely with the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the postholder will support the delivery of Pathway 1 of the UK–Nigeria Growth Programme, particularly across sectors such as renewable energy, agribusiness, and technology.

The adviser will engage extensively with UK and Nigerian businesses, investors, regulators, development finance institutions, and government stakeholders to unlock barriers, provide market intelligence, and facilitate strategic matchmaking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in identifying and prioritising investable projects aligned with UK–Nigeria growth objectives.
  • Coordinate stakeholders to remove non-financial barriers affecting deal progression.
  • Facilitate early engagement with relevant financing institutions and instruments.
  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with private sector leaders and public institutions.
  • Support UK official visits and trade missions with strong market insights.
  • Produce high-quality briefs, reports, and case studies for internal and external use.
  • Leverage UK technical expertise and global best practices to support trade facilitation.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree-level education with 8–10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Senior-level experience in pipeline development, investment facilitation, or deal coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of private finance instruments, blended finance, and risk mitigation tools.
  • Experience working with DFIs, IFIs, and export credit agencies.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills.

Salary & Benefits

Monthly Salary: USD 3,670.94 (subject to tax and statutory deductions).
