WTO Young Trade Leaders Programme 2026 (Fully Funded Geneva Opportunity)

Applications are now open for the 2026 World Trade Organization (WTO) Young Trade Leaders Programme. The initiative aims to promote a deeper understanding of international trade and the work of the WTO among young people while building a global network of future trade leaders.

Launched in 2024, the Young Trade Leaders Programme connects talented young individuals with the WTO, giving participants the opportunity to contribute fresh ideas on how global trade can benefit people, economies, and the planet.

Selected participants will engage directly with WTO activities, gain exposure to international trade discussions, and support awareness initiatives in their respective countries.

Programme Objectives

The programme seeks exceptional young individuals who understand the importance of international trade and can promote informed discussions about trade policy and global economic cooperation. Participants will contribute innovative perspectives while learning directly from WTO experts and initiatives.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old.
  • Demonstrated strong interest in international trade and global economic issues.
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively through digital or public engagement platforms.
  • Motivation to promote trade awareness within local communities.

Programme Benefits

Selected Young Trade Leaders will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain deeper knowledge of WTO operations and international trade systems.
  • Create articles, blogs, podcasts, and social media content on trade-related topics.
  • Attend a one-day in-person training programme at the WTO headquarters in Geneva.
  • Coordinate a session during the WTO Annual Public Forum.
  • Access WTO training programmes and mentorship from the WTO Secretariat.
  • Receive institutional support when organizing WTO-related activities in their home countries.
  • Travel to Geneva to participate in the 2026 WTO Public Forum (September).

Note: The programme does not provide salary or financial remuneration.

Application Procedure

  • Young Trade Leaders are selected for a one-year term.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews in May 2026.
  • Successful applicants will begin the programme on 1 July 2026.
