Role Summary

The Public Affairs Manager will be responsible for shaping and protecting the company’s external image through strategic communication, government engagement, and stakeholder relationship management. The role involves monitoring legislative developments, managing public affairs initiatives, overseeing crisis communication, and supporting corporate partnerships aligned with organizational goals.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Public Affairs

  • Develop and implement annual Public Affairs and Communication plans aligned with regional and global objectives.
  • Manage departmental budgets and monitor programme effectiveness.
  • Drive communication strategies targeting internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strengthen relationships with media organizations and key stakeholders.

Government Relations & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop engagement strategies with federal, state, and regulatory authorities.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting the business.
  • Provide analysis of policy changes and recommend company positions.
  • Build strong lobbying networks including policymakers, academics, NGOs, and industry associations.
  • Enhance corporate reputation through relationship building and advocacy.

Corporate Partnerships & Representation

  • Establish partnerships that align with corporate objectives and sustainability ambitions.
  • Represent the organization before government bodies, universities, and professional institutions.
  • Coordinate protocol and liaison activities.

Issues & Crisis Management

  • Lead crisis communication strategies and issue management initiatives.
  • Ensure organizational preparedness for communication emergencies.
  • Provide strategic advisory support during sensitive corporate situations.

Leadership & Performance Management

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to team members.
  • Drive stakeholder management strategies.
  • Prepare periodic reports and monitor sustainability programmes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • First Degree in any discipline (MBA or MSc is an added advantage).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in strategic public affairs or corporate communications roles.
  • Strong experience engaging government institutions and policymakers.
  • Expert knowledge of corporate affairs policies and compliance systems.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong leadership, networking, and conflict management capabilities.
  • Experience managing public affairs teams and cross-functional projects.
