Role Summary

The Merchandiser will support the implementation of BAT’s route-to-market strategy by ensuring product availability, visibility, and distribution efficiency across retail outlets. The role focuses on strengthening trade relationships, monitoring product presence in the market, and executing trade marketing activities that improve sales performance and brand presence.

Successful candidates will work closely with regional managers, area managers, and distribution teams to identify growth opportunities and deploy marketing initiatives across assigned territories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute marketing activities across assigned territories and ensure effective implementation.
  • Ensure product visibility, availability, freshness, and proper retail pricing in outlets.
  • Serve as part of a Tactical Response Team addressing market challenges and business needs.
  • Support the execution of Trade Marketing & Distribution activities in retail outlets.
  • Drive volume growth and distribution targets through direct selling and top-up stock.
  • Monitor van sales activities and support rural wholesale customer operations.
  • Identify new market opportunities and initiate trade programs where applicable.
  • Maintain strong relationships with retailers and wholesalers.
  • Promote BAT’s corporate image by adhering to high ethical, safety, and environmental standards.

People & Stakeholder Responsibilities

  • Support rural wholesale expansion initiatives by providing trade marketing support.
  • Engage local government authorities and regulatory bodies to avoid disruptions to operations.
  • Assist Van Representatives in developing new routes and improving performance.
  • Provide TM&D support to existing outlets to increase distribution reach.

Requirements

  • OND or HND from a reputable polytechnic.
  • Basic selling, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with consumers and retail partners.
  • Driving skills with a valid license.
  • Knowledge of rural road networks and towns is an advantage.
  • Understanding of local languages within assigned territories is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of redistribution concepts and business reporting.
  • Fluency in English.
