The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. The U.S. Consulate General Lagos represents the Mission to the Nigerian people in the southern region and supports U.S. foreign policy objectives through consular, diplomatic, and public engagement activities.
Job Summary
The U.S. Consulate General Lagos is seeking eligible and qualified applicants to fill two (2) Visa Assistant positions within the Consular Section. Successful candidates will support both Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) and Immigrant Visa (IV) operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform consular duties related to NIV and IV processing in line with established procedures.
- Carry out data entry, document review, correspondence, passport manifesting, and visa printing.
- Provide professional customer service to a diverse range of visa applicants.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of visa case documentation.
- Identify trends or potential issues and escalate appropriately.
- Operate flexibly across different visa functions based on workload and scheduling needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Completion of at least two (2) years of college or university studies.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience involving application of regulations, customer service, public contact, or problem-solving.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
- Successful completion of background investigation and possible medical examination.
- Availability to resume work within six (6) weeks of authorization.
Skills and Abilities
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Word and Outlook; basic knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately at a fast pace.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to draft clear correspondence in English and local languages.
- Sound judgment in handling sensitive information and applying regulations.
Language Requirement
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Fluent in at least one Nigerian language: Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa.
Salary
USD $19,951 per year
